Job Description

Job Summary:

Performs clerical and reception duties associated with patient registration.

Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients and visitors, responds to questions/concerns and directs them to appropriate location. Provides on-going communication with clinical staff regarding patient status.

  • Collects and enters all necessary demographic, clinical, billing and insurance information from patients or responsible parties.

  • Explains processes and forms to patients prior to securing signatures and ensures that all documents are properly signed and witnessed as required.

  • Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles.

  • May create patient financial file in core scheduling and/or registration system by accurately and thoroughly collecting, analyzing, and recording demographic, insurance, financial data in computer system in compliance with departmental quality standards.

  • May initiate electronic inquiries to payers and obtains eligibility and benefit information, creates patient payment estimates, explains information to patient and collects patient out of pocket expenses at registration. May reconcile cash drawers daily and follows department procedure for logging and submitting deposits.

  • Uses multi-line telephone system to answer and screen calls. Schedules appointments. Verifies information (spelling of name, phone number, etc.) Takes accurate telephone messages and promptly gives information to appropriate parties.

Education:

  • HS or Equivalent

  • High school diploma or equivalent required Post high-school education preferred and Prefer prior experience in a healthcare setting, and/or medical office or insurance setting.
