City of Hutchinson Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Hutchinson, Kansas
This position performs non-supervisory technical, skilled and manual work with responsibility for daily operation of all processes and equipment for the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant. Position work tasks include operating and monitoring departmental equipment to effectively treat wastewater prior to its discharge, and for maintaining and repairing treatment plant equipment, buildings and infrastructure, and lift station equipment. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, technical skills, and effective written and oral communication skills.
Environmental Conditions & Physical Demands
Work is performed in an indoor plant and outdoor field environment with travel from site to site and routine exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, hazardous chemicals, strong noxious odors, gases, raw sewage and bloodborne pathogens, mechanical and electrical hazards; roadway hazards and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment. Regularly uses large motor skills to exert moderate to heavy physical effort while performing a variety of movements such as bending, crouching, pushing/pulling, twisting/turning, digging and lifting for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain, as well as work at heights and confined spaces. Regularly uses fine motor skills to coordinate eyes and hands to use, adjust, repair and maintain a variety of tools as well as operate vehicles, machines or equipment. All vision abilities and senses, with the exception of taste, may be used depending on the particular task. Must be able to work overtime, evenings and weekends to respond to emergencies and public calls.
